Luminex xMAP technology is a rapid and sensitive flow cytometry-based multiplex assay platform that uses different subsets of fluorescently labelled microspheres (beads) which are coupled with ligands that specifically bind the analyte. In theory, it is possible to combine up to 80 different assays in a single 96-well plate based assay format with the Luminex readers implemented at our Centre.

The Meso Scale Discovery (MSD) platform is based on electrochemiluminescence and provides a rapid and high performance method for quantifying levels of one to ten analytes within a single, small-volume sample. With this technology, single or multiple spots within each well (on a 96-well plate) are coupled with ligands that specifically bind the analyte.
The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a plate-based assay technique commonly used for measuring different types of analytes in various sample types. Interactions between the ligand immobilized in absorbant 96-well plates and the target in the sample is measured with a probe linked to a reporter enzyme. Each ELISA normally detects a single analyte per well and does not distinguish between different analytes.
We have expertise to develop singleplex and multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction ((RT)-qPCR) tests that can be applied in diagnostics and research. PCR detection is often a faster and more sensitive alternative to detection of pathogens by traditional cultivation methods.
The Fluidigm system is a chip based real-time PCR-system. As opposed to traditional single and multiplex PCR methods, it is possible to simultaneously test up to 192 samples for multiple targets. For example, it is possible to test 192 samples for 24 pathogens simultaneously - generating a total of 4.608 data points in one run.
